Georgi is a #winelover who comes from the small town of Debeletz in the middle of Bulgaria, where only homemade wines are made. Trained to be an engineer in high school and later in Technical University, young Georgi was giving all signs of a promising mechanical engineer. However, at some point he must had been affected by wild yeast because on his third year he left the University to become a waiter! All the rest is history as they say…
Waiter, Restaurant Manager, Assistant Hotel Manager, Sommelier in the UK, Abu Dhabi, Cruise Lines, China are some of the places where Georgi was taken by his passion: wine. In 2011 he returned back to Bulgaria to share his knowledge and experience and in the same year, he won national competition “Best Sommelier of Bulgaria”.
Underrated wines, made of local grapes, inspired Georgi to create Someno wines in 2012. Those are wines made of local Bulgarian grape varieties in very limited, almost hobby stile quantities – up to 300 bottles. So far the wines are among the highest rated Bulgarian wines from International wine critics.
In the beginning of 2015 he launched his new project – Bulgarian Wine Report . It’s Georgi’s independent guide of Bulgarian wines based on 100 point scale (despite the controversy), where he writes his wines review’s in an easy to understand, customer orientated way.
And, last but not least, Georgi is part of the big international wine competion’s family: Decanter, Mundusvini, Mondial de Bruxelles, Finger Lakes International Wine Competition, Balkans International Wine Competition. These are some the competitions where he takes part as judge.
Georgi likes to say: “The best merit of a wine is to bring people together”. So #winelover… you’re not just welcome, but encouraged to contact him for information on Bulgaria and Bulgarian wines.
